Merida

This project was close to my heart, as it was the first time I cosplayed a Disney character. I also felt a connection to Merida and her free spirit.

I bought the dress online as a half finished dress that someone no longer wanted- it was far too big for me! My mum- being the ace seamstress that she is- fought the terrible seam allowances and made a dress that fit me like a glove.

I had planned to dye my hair for the convention but chickened out, something that I regret actually. I ended up wearing this dress for both the convention and for a school leavers day which was disney themed.

I received lots of compliments on my cosplay but had to take it off halfway through the convention as wool dresses are far too hot for a packed Earls Court!

This was my 3rd cosplay in my challenge, and one I definitely learnt from: about costumery in general, and about the nature of cosplay itself: is it about looking perfectly like the character or channeling the character? I don't think I'll ever really know but I had fun and I think that's what matters.

Cosplay is having fun and sharing that fun with others equally as enthusiastic as you!
